Electric – Installation

Donohoe Living Landscapes was honoured to join the team behind the artistic installation showcasing a new line of elegant architectural lighting by Omar Gandhi Architects.

The completed installation in Mason Studio, Toronto was designed in reference to the Halifax home of Omar Gandhi, highlighting the adaptability of their new lighting designs. Donohoe’s contribution was to incorporate materials from the natural world that would create a balance with the manufactured products. These materials comprised of three distinct elements. First, large boulders were sourced locally, then cut and intentionally placed throughout the space to ground the installation. Then, foliose lichen (Hypogymnia physodes) – sustainably gathered from forests on the West Coast – covers structures that mirror the table in the space. This subtly softens the hardscape and gives the installation an established appearance, all the while putting focus on the lighting products. Finally, the miniature fungi terrarium gardens are a delightful surprise for those who take the time to immerse themselves in the experience.

The long, clean lines and bright spaces of Mason Studio was the host and the stage for the Electric installation, led by Omar Gandhi Architects.
The launch party went long into the night, and brought together the most influential artists and designers in Toronto to take in the collaborative installation.
Whether from the studio in Vancouver or on the ground in Toronto, our team was dedicated to executing the vision of the installation.
