Nanoose Bay Waterfront Acreage

This wildly beautiful three-acre property overlooking Nanoose Bay is a dream setting for a family planning to house multiple generations on one site. Serenity is prevalent on the property, with one side flanked by the Es-hw Sme~nts Regional Park, and an extensive rugged shoreline that frames 180-degree ocean views. This is truly the place to experience amazing winter storms and serene sunrises.

Such a property calls for simple and practical integrations into this naturalized landscape. The entire site is accessed by simple goat paths, which either connect features in the landscape – or lead to areas of importance, such as shelter or outstanding views. Sustainable landscape design is key, with the hardscapes minimal, and softscapes (once established) meant to be resilient in the face of summer droughts and exposed winters.

With the existing home complete and another one in planning, visits to the site are crucial to analyze the existing landscape vegetation and grades.
Inspiration from various rural projects influenced the various design interactions. These projects demonstrate the integration of lawn in a meadow setting, and continuous wood surfaces for design cohesion.
Materials selected for the site include a pre-fabricated modern greenhouse, stone benches from local artist Brent Comber, and a steel cable railing similar to shown.
Design development on the site continues, ensuring to emphasize views across the bay within the lush forest setting.
