Vancouver Old-World Home

This tranquil spot in the heart of Vancouver was designed for a family that longs to feel old-world European charm in their own backyard. A household that entertains in this traditional way – with long conversations going into the evening – merits a cozy, enchanting lounging area that evolves from day to dusk. Spontaneous plantings of white anemones, tassel ferns, and Siberian Irises complement the lush evergreen garden beds throughout. The seclusion provided by the sizable cedar and yew hedges, new cedar fence with custom gates, and columnar beech trees conceal the custom storage areas and enhance the serene ambiance of a small village in another land far away.

While the project is smaller in size than most of our projects, we are proud to display the intricate details that make this design remarkable.

The traditional craftsmanship of the architecture was accentuated with features that created a timeless and intimate front entrance to the home. A flexible seating area is planted with leptinella as a feathery groundcover, eliminating the need for lawn.
The cedar fence was stained to match the black powder-coated custom gates, embedded with the symbol reflected in the ornamental windows of the home. Fond-du-lac limestone cobbles were inlaid with lower-set mortar, echoing a traditional winding cobblestone street.
The fireplace and custom stone seating features were created with large Fond-du-Lac blocks, honed on site to create a snug fit and to allow for exposure of the natural texture. Luxurious furniture from Amalfi Living creates a serene and flexible lounging area.
