Palm Desert Residence

The hot desert sun shines year-round on this expansive, modern family home in Palm Desert, California. Deep red rocks of the San Bernardino mountain range hug sweeping views from the property, made even more open to the pure blue skies by the home’s exposed golf course setting.

An undulating sculpture by Henry Spencer Moore from the Chicago Institute of Art ('large interior form 1953') together with the nearby sand dunes provided the inspiration for the landscape conceptual design. Working closely with the client on-site is the optimal situation for a designer.
The intricate textures of desert cacti and succulents make their mark on the conceptual design.
All twenty-seven plants in the palette will find their roots in the dry desert environment, and also provide habitat for the abundance of local butterflies.
Considering the year-round temperate climate, a strong relationship is established between the indoor and outdoor spaces in the landscape. The rectilinear hardscape flows from the existing architecture, and the contoured garden creates a sanctuary for entertainment and relaxation amongst the desert vegetation.
